Bouchelaghem Named Pac-12 Player Of The Week
February 28, 2023 | Men's Tennis
SEATTLE – Husky sophomore Cesar Bouchelaghem picked up the first top-20 win of his career last weekend, and today he garnered his first Pac-12 Men's Tennis Player of the Week honor.
Bouchelaghem has won his first 11 matches of dual play for the Huskies, all at the No. 3 singles spot. He also won his final five matches during the fall, giving him a 16-match win streak. Sunday's win over 18th-ranked Gavin Young (7-6, 6-3) of Michigan was more validation for the level of play that Bouchelaghem is reaching for.
Prior to that, he also had a 6-0, 3-6, 6-3 win on Friday against Christian Lerby of Santa Clara.
A native of Pallud, France, Bouchelaghem joined the Huskies midway through the 2021-22 season at just 17 years of age and he is still just 18.
He played a big role for the Huskies last spring, going 11-8 in singles play and clinching Pac-12 tourney wins over Arizona and UCLA, but his game has continued to progress in his first full season at Washington, moving up from the No. 5 and No. 6 spots to No. 3 in singles, and No. 1 in doubles with Dzianis Zharyn.
It is the first Pac-12 Player of the Week honor for the Huskies this season.
