Huskies Finish Up At Seminole Beach Bash
February 26, 2023 | Beach Volleyball
Tallahassee, Florida – On Day two of the Seminole Beach Bash the Husky Beach Volleyball team faced No. 19 ranked South Carolina and Coastal Carolina. The Huskies started the day off with a 3-2 win against South Carolina but ended the day falling 2-3 to Coastal Carolina. Head Coach Derek Olson commented on the day for his team.
"Today was all about trying not to succumb to human nature. We knew that it would be hard to get the same energy going early in the day against a good South Carolina team. Fortunately for us we battled hard and kept our composure during some very intense points," he remarked.
He talked about the difficulty that the elements and environment presented to the group in their first competition of the season. "This team has some mental resiliency and I was really proud of their effort in that duel. It was really hot and we went deep into overtime on several courts," he said.
"We only had an hour off before we had to regroup and play an under-the-radar team, Coastal Carolina," he said, "They outplayed us and got the win, but I was actually still proud of our effort. It was very hot and to have to turn around that quickly and play proved to be a little tough for us."
Olson expressed his excitement for the season and the potential his team is showing. "Overall, I'm super proud of this team. I think they proved they can play with anyone, but we have a lot of season left. We must learn from this weekend and continue to be present throughout training."
The Huskies are back at it next weekend at the Pac-12 South Invitational where they will face Arizona, Stanford, USC and Oregon.
