November 21, 2023 | Football
Washington's Edefuan Ulofoshio is among the five finalists for the Butkus Award, The Butkus Foundation announced today. The award is presented annually to the nation's most outstanding linebacker.
The finalists come from five schools representing three conferences (ACC, Pac-12 and SEC). The winner will be announced on or before Dec. 6.
Ulofoshio is second on the team and ninth in the conference with 72 total tackles through 11 games. In the Huskies' win over Cal, Ulofoshio stacked UW to an early lead with a 45-yard interception return for a touchdown. The senior captain led the team with 11 tackles and a sack in the win over No. 8 Oregon. Against Stanford, Ulofoshio recorded a season-high 12 tackles with a forced fumble. Last weekend, Ulofoshio notched seven tackles, including a half TFL, and a pass break-up in the win at No. 10 Oregon State.
He is the third Husky to be named a finalist since the award began, joining Hau'oli Kikaha (2014) and Dave Hoffmann (1992).
Founded in 1985, the Butkus Award honors linebackers at three levels while supporting causes important to the Butkus family. Causes include Butkus Takes Heart™ initiative encouraging early cardiovascular screening among adults, and the I Play Clean® initiative encouraging athletes to train naturally without performance-enhancing drugs. A 51-member expert panel of coaches, scouts and journalists guides the selection process.
