
Penix Jr. Honored As Walter Camp Player Of The Year Semifinalist

Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. is among the nine semifinalists for the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award.
Penix Jr. ranks in the Top 10 nationally in passing touchdowns (30; third), passing yards (3,695; first), passing yards per game (335.9; first), points responsible for (182; seventh), points responsible for (200; sixth), points responsible for per game (18.2; seventh), total offense (335.5, third) and yards per pass attempt (9.38; ninth).
Through 11 games this season, Penix Jr. is responsible for 33 touchdowns and completed 262 of 394 pass attempts for 3,695 yards. The senior from Tampa has thrown four or more touchdowns five times this season and thrown for over 300 yards in eight contests including three 400+ yard performances.
Penix Jr.'s 473 yards at Michigan State are the third-most in a single-game in program history on his way to earning Walter Camp Player of the Week.
Penix Jr. has also been named a semifinalist for the Davey O'Brien Award, Maxwell Award and a finalist for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm.
The three finalists will be announced on Tuesday, Nov. 28, and the 57th recipient of the Walter Camp Player of Year award will be announced on ESPN's College Football Awards Show on Friday, December 8.
Walter Camp, "The Father of American football," first selected an All-America team in 1889. Camp - a former Yale University athlete and football coach - is also credited with developing play from scrimmage, set plays, the numerical assessment of goals and tries and the restriction of play to eleven men per side. The Walter Camp Football Foundation - a New Haven-based all-volunteer group - was founded in 1967 to perpetuate the ideals of Camp and to continue the tradition of selecting annually an All-America team.
