
Penix Jr. Named Finalist For Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award

Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. is among the five finalists for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award given annually to the nation's top upperclassman quarterback who best exemplifies character, scholastic and athletic achievement.
Penix Jr. ranks in the Top 10 nationally in completions per game (24.9; ninth), passing efficiency (170.5; eighth), passing touchdowns (28; fourth), passing yards (3,533; first), passing yards per game (353.3; first), points responsible for (182; seventh), total offense (350.6, second) and yards per pass attempt (9.65; sixth).
Through 10 games this season, Penix Jr. is responsible for 34 touchdowns and completed 249 of 366 pass attempts for 3,533 yards. The senior from Tampa has thrown four or more touchdowns five times this season and thrown for over 300 yards in eight contests including three 400+ yard performances.
Penix Jr.'s 473 yards at Michigan State are the third-most in a single-game in program history on his way to earning Walter Camp Player of the Week.
Earlier this week, Penix Jr. was announced as a semifinalist for the Davey O'Brien Award and Maxwell Award.
The 2023 award winner will be presented the Golden Arm Award trophy by The Johnny Unitas Educational Foundation President, John Unitas, Jr., as well as other notable attendees at the Golden Arm Award banquet and celebration at the Four Seasons Hotel in Baltimore, Maryland on Thursday, December 7, 2023.
