Penix Jr. Selected As Maxwell Award Semifinalist

Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. has been named one of 17 semifinalists for the Maxwell Award, the Maxell Football Club announced Monday.

Penix Jr. ranks in the Top 10 nationally in completions per game (24.9; ninth), passing efficiency (170.5; eighth), passing touchdowns (28; fourth), passing yards (3,533; first), passing yards per game (353.3; first), points responsible for (182; seventh), total offense (350.6, second) and yards per pass attempt (9.65; sixth).

Through 10 games this season, Penix Jr. is responsible for 34 touchdowns (28 passing, two rushing). He has completed 249 of 366 pass attempts for 3,533 yards. The senior from Tampa has thrown four or more touchdowns five times this season and thrown for over 300 yards in eight contests including three 400+ yard performances. Penix Jr.'s 473 yards at Michigan State are the third-most in a single-game in program history on his way to earning Walter Camp Player of the Week.

Three finalists for each award will be announced on Nov. 28 and a final round of voting will take place at that time. The winners of the 87th Maxwell Award and the 29th Chuck Bednarik Award will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show which will be broadcast live on ESPN on Friday, December 8, 2023.
