Klingler Named Pac-12 Player of the Week, Plain Tabbed Pitcher
February 22, 2022 | Softball
SAN FRANCISCO – After a successful weekend at the St. Pete Clearwater Elite Invitational, Baylee Klingler was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week and Gabbie Plain was tabbed Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week. This is Klingler's first honor of the season, second of her career, and Plain's second of the season, ninth of her career.
In the first three games of the St. Pete Clearwater Elite Invitational, Klingler hit at least one home run. This was a streak of four consecutive games with a home run, dating back to last week's win over then-No. 8 Arkansas. The senior drove in the winning run (a homer) against Texas Tech, and also singled to advance Kelley Lynch in the bottom of the seventh against No. 7 Oklahoma State. Lynch then scored on an error to put the Dawgs ahead for good. Against ranked opponents on the weekend, she went 7-for-15 with eight RBI, two doubles and four home runs.
Gabbie Plain went 2-1 on the weekend, pitching two complete game shutouts against No. 18 Tennessee and Texas Tech. In 18 innings pitched, Plain allowed only two earned runs. She struck out 19 batters. Plain's ERA for the weekend was 0.78, and for the season is 0.45.
The Dawgs are back in action this weekend at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, where they will take on San Diego State, Loyola Marymount, No. 16 Missouri, No. 18 Northwestern and RV Iowa State.
