Peng Tied For 4th; UW In 6th After First Round In Georgia
October 21, 2022 | Men's Golf
ALPHARETTA, Ga. โ Led by a 4-under 68 from Bo Peng, the Washington men's golf team finished the first round of the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Invitational in sixth place, with a team total of 6-under 282.
ย
The Huskies enter the second of three rounds three strokes back of 3rd place, and six strokes from the lead, in a field that includes eight teams ranked in the top-25 in the nation.
ย
"I'm probably a little disappointed with how we finished the round as we had a chance to have a really good one," said head coach Alan Murray, "but we played a lot of good golf today and it is important to focus on the positives.
ย
"The back 9 is the trickier of the two sides," he continued, "and if you get out of position then you can face some problems. That's probably what happened with a couple of our bogies"
ย
Peng, a senior, opened his round with an eagle-3 on the 542-yard first hole, and added an eagle on No. 9 as well. Those two eagles, along with three bogies and three birdies left him at 4-under, good for a tie for fourth place.
ย
"Great round from Bo Peng," Murray said, "and I'm really proud of and pleased for him. He was 6 under for the par 5s and hit 17 greens in regulation. He smashed one 350 off the first and never looked back."
ย
Petr Hruby, who had missed the UW's most recent competition due to injury, returned on Friday, and carded the UW's second-best round with a 1-under 71, tying him for 25th place. .
ย
Junior Taehoon Song matched Hruby's score, with five birdies and four bogies, also tying him for 25th.
ย
Freshman Joshua Koo carded an even-par 72 to tie him for 34th place, while junior Teddy Lin was 3-over for the round.
ย
"It was great to have Petr back in the lineup and he was solid with a 1-under par round," Murray said. "Taehoon made a nice birdie on 16 coming in and had 71 also. Joshua Koo played really well and his even-par round really deserved to be much better, but he continues to show his quality and competitiveness.
ย
"Teddy played well for most of the round," Murray concluded, "but a couple of bad holes on the back nine cost him. I am sure he will be itching to get back out there tomorrow and I know he has a really good round in him."
ย
The Huskies will tee off of hole No. 10, beginning at 9:20 a.m. ET/6:20 a.m. PT on Saturday, playing with Stanford and Duke.
