Porter Named Campbell Trophy Semifinalist
September 29, 2021 | Football
Washington's Race Porter has been named a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, college football's premier scholar-athlete award, the National Football Foundation announced today.
Porter, a "super senior" from Seattle's O'Dea High, was also recently named to the Allstate AFCA Good Hands Team. The former walk-on is on pace to break the school record for single-season punting average, currently boasting a 49.0-yard average on 13 punts. Last Saturday vs. Cal, he averaged 55.5 yards on four punts, the third-best single-game average in school history. He also became just the fourth Huskies to record two punts of 60 or more yards in a single game.
Porter has also made a name for himself for his advocacy of mental health awareness.
The NFF will announce 12-14 finalists on Oct. 27, and each of them will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the 2021 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class Presented by Fidelity Investments. Last year, UW defensive back Elijah Molden was a finalist.
