Huskies Make Preseason Debut In National Poll
August 31, 2021 | Cross Country
SEATTLE - Husky cross country reports to campus this week, just a couple days out from a season-opening rust-buster at Magnuson Park with Seattle U. With the season getting set to start, the USTFCCCA rolled out its preseason national coaches poll today. Both Washington squads are coming off NCAA Championship appearances and both are ranked once again to start 2021.
The Husky women start the season ranked No. 10, after finishing 13th at the delayed 2020 national championships, held in March of 2021. The women have made the NCAA Championships fourteen years in a row, and will have all seven of their entries from the March championship available again this fall, led by Allie Schadler who earned All-America honors with a 26th-place finish, and Haley Herberg who won the Pac-12 individual title.
The men's squad was led last season by a trio of All-Pac-12 Team honorees, in first team selection Isaac Green and second teamers Luke Houser and Leo Daschbach. Green went on to shatter the UW 5,000m school record at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in June. The Huskies will start the season ranked No. 13 nationally. The men will be seeking a fifth consecutive NCAA Championship appearance.
