Wong, Gallagher Earn Final Singles Rankings
June 03, 2021 | Women's Tennis
SEATTLE - In the final set of rankings from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, senior Vanessa Wong earned a career-high No. 23 singles ranking, while junior Sedona Gallagher got the first ranking of her career, at No. 87. As a team, the Huskies end 2021 ranked No. 43.
Wong, an All-Pac-12 First Team selection and an NCAA Singles Championship participant, moved up one spot from her pre-NCAA ranking to finish at 23rd. It marks the 14th time that a Husky has ended the season ranked in the top-25, and the first since Stacey Fung was ranked 20th at the end of the 2018 season. The Toronto, Canada native finished the season with a 17-5 record.
Gallagher jumped up to 87th in the final poll after being unranked throughout the year. The Henderson, Nev. product went 16-4 in dual matches this year including 12-3 at the No. 3 spot. She was named an All-Pac-12 honorable mention.
This is the fourth time in the past five years that the Huskies have had two players ranked in the final ITA singles rankings, with UW also achieving that feat in 2017, 2018, and 2019.
The Huskies finished 15-8 overall and end the season ranked 43rd. It's their fifth-straight top-45 ranking at season's end.
