GymDawgs Welcome Tira Kuitunen
April 27, 2021 | Gymnastics
SEATTLE β The Washington GymDawgs announced another new signee for the 2022 season, welcoming Tira Kuitunen to the GymDawg family. Kuitunen comes to Washington from her native Finland and has also spent time with MG Elite in New Jersey.
Β
Kuitunen has been excellent during her senior career in Finland, finishing second in the nation on beam and third on floor, helping her club team to a national championship. At Euro Trials, Kuitunen finished first on beam, then took first at the Worlds Trials on beam as well as second on bars.
Β
Kuitunen's time in the junior division has been just as impressive. She won the Finnish national championship on floor, finishing third in all-around and third on bars. At the 2016 Nordic Championships, Kuitunen earned second on floor and third on bars. She has competed in five Finnish Championships, two Nordic Championships, and two European Championships.
Β
"Tira's gymnastics is a mix of artistry and perfection," said Ralph Rosso. "She will add strength and depth to our bars, beam and floor lineups. Her love and passion for the sport has no limits and we anticipate her having a successful career at Washington. Tira will fit right in with our 2021 class giving us a core four that can contribute to the team's goals immediately."
Β
Kuitunen will join the GymDawgs as a freshman for the 2022 season. She will be part of a four-gymnast freshman class, joining Ashley Blum, Lana Navarro, and Leah Smith.
