Clutch Bases-Loaded At-Bats Make Difference In 4-2 Win
April 17, 2021 | Softball
SEATTLE – The #6 Washington Huskies took another one from the #8 Oregon Ducks, riding strong defense and clutch bases-loaded hitting to a 4-2 victory. Sami Reynolds' second homer of the weekend started the scoring early on.
Two big bases-loaded situations made the difference in the game. The Ducks loaded the bases in the third after taking their only lead of the day, only for Plain to bounce back and get the next batter swining to end the inning. In the fourth, the Huskies loaded the base with one out, with Lilly Agan's walk and Sis Bates' single driving in three runs and putting the Huskies back in front.
Gabbie Plain took advantage of the stellar defense behind her, holding Oregon to just two runs, both in the third inning. Plain struck out six batters in the game as she improved to 22-0 on the year.
Six different Huskies either scored a run or drove one in. SilentRain Espinoza had two hits, while Kelley Lynch drew two walks to give her a fourth straight game drawing at least one walk. Bates and Megan Vandegrift combined for three steals, making the Huskies 5-for-5 on the basepaths this weekend.
The series finishes up tomorrow at 2:00 pm on the Pac-12 Network.
