Cunningham Named All-Pac-12
March 26, 2021 | Gymnastics
SAN FRANCISCO - Washington's own Amara Cunningham was named All-Pac-12 on floor, the first All-Pac-12 honor of Cunningham's career. Cunningham will represent the GymDawgs at NCAA Regionals next week alongside Skylar Killough-Wilhelm, Geneva Thompson, and Allie Smith.
Cunningham finished fourth in the Pac-12 on floor this year with an average score of 9.902. She joins Kristyn Hoffa as the only GymDawgs to average a score over 9.900 on floor in the last 25 years. She finished 21st in the nation on floor, the fifth-best finish by a GymDawg in the last 25 years.
Washington has now had at least one GymDawg earn All-Pac-12 honors in ten straight years and 13 of the last 14. Cunningham is the 19th GymDawg all-time to earn All-Pac-12 honors on floor and the sixth in the last ten years to do so. Washington has had three different GymDawgs earn All-Pac-12 on floor in the last two years.
Six times this year Cunningham earned a score of 9.900 or higher on floor, including each of the last four meets of the regular season. She earned five event titles this year, all on floor, just the fourth GymDawg ever to earn at least five floor titles in a single year. She joins Carly Dockendorf, Ashley Houghting, and Kristyn Hoffa in that regard. Cunningham did not have a single floor routine earn a score under 9.850 this year. Since the beginning of the 2020 season, 19 of Cunningham's 20 floor routines have earned scores of 9.800 or higher.
Cunningham will be a part of the Salt Lake City Regionals. The four GymDawgs competing as individuals will compete on Friday, April 2, with that session beginning at 6:00 pm PT.
