Mai-Loni Henson Signs Pro Contract to Play In France
April 13, 2020 | Women's Basketball
SEATTLE --- Former Husky Mai-Loni Henson has signed a professional contract to play in France this fall.

"I am REALLY excited," said Henson. "Everything happened so fast. I just recently decided to play just about a month or two ago and I was able to find a team and sign very quickly. My coach and teammates have all been very helpful and welcoming so I'm really looking forward to going out there and starting this new adventure with them!"

Henson has signed on to join Al Aplemont, a Division III team based in Le Havre, France. She will join the team in August for a season that runs through April.

Henson finished her Husky career averaging 6.0 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. She was one of just two players to start all 30 games during her senior year, finishing the year averaging 6.7 points per contest and recording career highs in steals, assists, rebounds and field goal percent.

"I originally was prepared to finish my basketball career after finishing my senior season at UW," said Henson. "After the memorable Senior Night, I realized I wasn't ready to give up basketball just yet. My plans were to originally graduate from UW and head into an accelerated nursing program. But once I put a lot of thought and consideration in whether I wanted to continue playing, it was a no brainer after opportunities were proposed! I couldn't miss up on this experience and I am so excited to begin this new journey!

"Being in another country and away from your loved ones can be a bit intimidating and scary at first," said Henson. "I am lucky enough to have a family-like team that will help me adjust to my new life in France! Overall, I am really excited and I can't wait to start this new life!"
