Huskies Win Pac-12 Opener 4-1 Over No. 44 Utah

SEATTLE --- Washington opened the Pac-12 slate on a good note, beating No. 44 Utah 4-1 on Friday afternoon at the Nordstrom Tennis Center.
In doubles, the Huskies (10-3 overall, 1-0 Pac-12) were down early on all three courts, but came back to win two of the courts and the doubles point. The duo of Sedona Gallagher and Zoey Weil took court three with a 6-2 win over their opponent. While Vanessa Wong and Natsuho Arakawa clinched the point with a 6-4 win over Utah's top team which is ranked No. 12 in Division I.
Washington continued the momentum from doubles over to singles. Nika Zupancic took the lead early in her match and continued it throughout to take the win on court five 6-2 6-2. The match of the day came on court six, with Weil being down 0-5 early in the first set and working her way to tie it up at five. She won the set in a tie breaker 7-6, however the game went unfinished in the second set with Weil up 1-0. Arakawa clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-4 win on court two.
The Huskies will be back home Sunday, March 8 at 11 am as they take on Colorado in the Nordstrom Tennis Center. Admission is free and pizza will be served in between the singles and doubles matches.
