February 29, 2020 | Beach Volleyball
TUCSON, Ariz. – The Husky beach volleyball squad made some adjustments on day two of the 2020 season and came away with a 5-0 win over Colorado Mesa to improve to 2-1 on the season. The Huskies finished their opening weekend road trip to Arizona's Bear Down Beach.
As was the case on Friday, the No. 2 and No. 4 matches were up first today. Head Coach Steve Whitaker tinkered with the lineup a bit, and paired Emma Calle and Addie Picha together at the fours. They got a quick win, 21-15, 21-14, over Colorado Mesa's Dixon and McGinnis.
Natalie Robinson and Chloe Loreen had a tough first set at No. 2 against Dabrowski and Lachemann, but they pulled it out, 24-22, and then closed it out with a 21-15 second set win to make it 2-0 Dawgs.
Another new duo got the clincher, as Callie Weber teamed with Avie Niece at No. 5 for a 21-13, 21-12 win over Layman/Palmer. Then Kara Bajema and Shayne McPherson completed a 3-0 weekend with a 23-21, 21-13 win at the No. 1 spot over Schmidt/Foutz.
One match went the distance, as Claire Hoffman and Shannon Crenshaw teamed up for the first time at No. 3. They dropped the first set, 12-21, but then rallied back to win the second, 21-19, and won the third set, 15-11, over Norwood/Reese.
Next week the Huskies head to Los Angeles where they will take part in the Pac-12 South Invitational and take on California, Stanford, Utah, and UCLA on March 7-8.
