Bates, Flores Named Senior CLASS Candidates
February 18, 2020 | Softball
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Sis Bates and Morganne Flores were named candidates for the 2020 Senior CLASS Award. The award is given for excellence in four areas: community, classroom, character, and competition. Bates and Flores are two of the 30 candidates for the award.
This is the second consecutive year that Washington has had at least one player named a candidate for the award. Taran Alvelo was one of the ten finalists for the honor in 2019. Washington is one of only two schools in the country to have multiple athletes earn a place among the 30 candidates for the award.
The list of 30 will be narrowed to ten candidates later this year. At that point, voting for the honoree will be made open to the public to select which candidate best exemplifies the four pillars of community, classroom, character, and competition. The winner will be announced during the 2020 Women's College World Series.
Bates, a two-time All-American, has also been named one of the candidates for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year for the second consecutive year. She is a two-time Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, was named the Seattle Sports Star of the Year for 2019, and has earned Pac-12 All-Academic honors in each of her two years eligible for the award.
Flores is also a candidate for the Player of the Year award for the second year in a row. An All-American in 2019, Flores has twice earned Pac-12 All-Academic honors, was an All-American in 2019, and has earned All-Region honors from the NFCA in all three years she has competed.
