UW Sustainability 2019 Zero-Waste Challenge Game Information
September 11, 2019 | Football, General, Sustainability
During the 2019-20 football and basketball seasons, Pac-12 Conference schools will compete against each other in the pursuit of zero waste. Each team will record the waste produced during a single game in the season.
This year's Pac-12 Zero Waste Challenge game for Washington football is this Saturday, Sept.Β 14, against Hawai'i. Our goal is to reach zero waste (a diversion rate of 90% or better is considered zero waste) and take home the Pac-12 Zero-Waste Challenge crown.
With all Pac-12 schools participating, this is a great opportunity for all Dawg fans to show their commitment to sustainable practices and keep Husky Stadium the greatest setting in college sports today and for generations of Huskies to come.
In order to achieve our goal of zero waste in Husky Stadium, we need fans to help ensure that everything that can be recycled or composted is getting into the right bins. Because almost all concessions foods and containers are either compostable or recyclable, we can reach our goal if everything is disposed of correctly.
Team Green volunteers will be located throughout the stadium at every home game this season, doing their part to engage with Husky fans and make sure waste reaches the correct bins. This combination of passionate Husky fans and volunteers dedicated to a sustainable future, will help us in the quest for the title of Pac-12 Zero Waste Challenge Champion!
Be on the lookout for Team Green volunteers, the Green Minute between the third and fourth quarters, in-game videos featuring Coach Petersen and student-athletes, and the presentation of the 2018 Pac-12 Football Fan Engagement Award.
