2019 Fall Camp Soundbites: Day 16
August 19, 2019 | Football
SEATTLE – Members of the Washington football team met with the media Monday afternoon following the Huskies' 16th practice of fall camp. Read some of what they had to say.
DEFENSIVE BACK ELIJAH MOLDEN
(On the team's progression through fall camp) "It's coming together really well. Everyone has good days and bad days, but every time we have a bad day, we bounce back. We're pretty consistent, so I'm happy."
(On what defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake means by 'unbelievable verbal combat') "It's pre-snap alerts, alerting what the offense is going to do. Situational football, down and distance. Alerting when a receiver is sitting at the sticks and things like that, and then after we make a big play, congratulating your teammate. Kind of like defense does in basketball, how they're always talking and everything. That's kind of what we like to do."
DEFENSIVE BACK KEITH TAYLOR
(On what the defense has been working on during fall camp) "Our regular plays, our base calls. Our bread and butter. Just trying to get those detailed so when it comes to game time, everything is clicking."
(On the communication defensively between players) "It's been going well. It's starting to become more crystal clear. Day one, everybody is nervous, it's not as loud. Now it's starting to pick up. Everybody is starting to get it down pat now… It's very important. Communication breeds understanding. Like Coach Lake says, you want your communication crystal clear. Everybody knows their plays, everybody knows their spots. Then when it comes to game time, it's easy."
OUTSIDE LINEBACKER ARIEL NGATA
(On the current state of the Huskies' pass rush) "It's gotten way better because our mentality about it has changed. We're not as hesitant and we're more aggressive mentally. It's a more aggressive approach to try and get to the quarterback. I think that's improved it a lot."
(On looking forward to competing against someone other than his teammates) "It's going to be exciting. We've been practicing every day, just grinding. It's going to be a fun game."
OUTSIDE LINEBACKER JOE TRYON
(On how the offense is progressing) "Definitely, I've seen improvement. They have their practices and we have our practices, going back and forth. It's been really fun to see this fall camp."
