Huskies Add Team IMPACT's Glassman to 2019 Squad

SEATTLE --- The University of Washington men's soccer team made a late addition to its 2019 roster on Friday night, signing 14-year-old Trevor Glassman from Arlington to become an official Huskies Teammate through the Team IMPACT Draft Day program.
Trevor has been battling with a congenital heart defect called pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum since he was born. The family found out when he was just three hours old. Trevor, a young man of few words, wore a big smile on his face throughout the ceremony.
"Over the past few months, Trevor has really become a part of the fabric of this program," said UW Head Coach Jamie Clark. "It was exciting today to formalize the relationship and really have him become a Husky for life."
As part an honorary member of the team, Glassman will join the Huskies in practices, games and team functions over the course of the next two seasons.
"We started hanging out with the team at the end of January. We thought he was having open heart surgery then and he had kind of retreated back into himself," said his mother Jackie Glassman. "After a few times of hanging out with the guys on the team, we started to see the old Trevor again.
"The team has been great with him, especially when you consider they are just a bunch of college kids," she added. "We have played hoops with them a couple of times, met them at the mall and had lunch with them and they've come out to his soccer games and his sister's basketball games."
Washington redshirt sophomore midfielder Lucas Meek talked about how important it was to have Trevor as part of the Husky family.
"Having Trevor as a part of this team really brings all of our team together," said Meek. "Being able to look after Trevor and embrace him and his family is a fun opportunity for us all and a great chance for him to get to know us as well."
"Our guys really care," said Clark. "This one has become a strong bond and a couple of them in particular—Meek, Ryan Crowley and Andrew Conwell—have really taken it to the next level, going to family basketball games, dinners, just spending time with the whole family and making the relationship great for all."
After the ceremony, the team and Trevor went out to shoot hoops in an empty Alaska Airlines Arena. Incredibly, Trevor drained a trick shot from well back in the bleachers, leading to uproarious applause by his new teammates.
