July 15, 2019 | Football
Washington's Jacob Eason and Myles Bryant have been named to the preseason watch lists for the Maxwell Award and Chuck Bednarik Award, respectively, the Football Writers Association of American announced today.
The Maxwell Award, named in honor of Robert W. "Tiny" Maxwell, has been given to America's College Player of the Year since 1937. Maxwell's contributions to the game of football were extensive, including time as a player, a sportswriter and an official.
The Bednarik Award has been presented to the College Defensive Player of the Year since 1995. Chuck Bednarik, former standout at Penn and with the Philadelphia Eagles, is a member of both the College Football Hall of Fame's Class of '69 and the NFL Hall of Fame's Class of '67.
Eason, a junior quarterback from Lake Stevens, Wash., enters his first season of eligibilty in a Husky uniform, having spent the 2018 season redshirting after transferring to the UW from Georgia, where he started in 2016.
Bryant, a senior defensive back from Pasadena, Calif., has started 25 games over the last two seasons and enters the 2019 season as the most experienced player on a defense that has finished atop the Pac-12 the last four seasons. Bryant was a second-team All-Pac-12 player last year after having earned honorable mention in 2017.
