Elliott Wins 400m Hurdles Silver At USA Juniors

MIRAMAR, Fla. - Cass Elliott took another big step in his record-setting freshman season as the Seattle native placed second in the 400-meter hurdles at the USATF U20 Championships today at the Ansin Sports Complex. With the silver medal finish, Elliott joins teammate Alex Slenning, who won the steeplechase on Saturday, as Huskies headed for Costa Rica as part of Team USA for the Pan-American U20 Championships.
Elliott finished second today in 51.30 seconds behind Pac-12 rival James Smith of Arizona who won in 50.29 seconds. They will both represent the U.S. at Pan-Ams on July 19-21. Smith and Elliott were third and fourth, respectively, in the 400m hurdles at the Pac-12 Championships this year.
Also racing in the finals today was incoming Husky Marlena Preigh from Boulder, Colo. Preigh placed fourth today in the women's 800-meter finals, in a time of 2:08.60.
