SEATTLE – The University of Washington men's basketball program has added USC transfer J'Raan Brooks to its roster, head coach Mike Hopkins announced on Thursday. Brooks will have to sit out a year due to transfer rules and will have three years of eligibility remaining.
"We're excited to add J'Raan to the program," said Hopkins. "We've been following him for a long time and it's great to have another hometown player come back to Seattle and represent our team. We'll benefit from his experience immediately in practice and look forward to him being able to play in a year."
The 6-9 power forward is originally from Seattle and spent his high school days playing at Garfield where he helped lead the team to the 2018 3A State title averaging 15 points and 11 rebounds. He was named first team All-Metro and Co-Defensive Player of the Year following the season and was ranked No. 76 on Rivals and No. 84 on the ESPN Top 100 for the 2018 class.
As a freshman at USC, Brooks saw action in 28 games averaging 8.2 minutes per outing. He averaged 2.0 points and 1.3 rebounds in that time.
