April 28, 2019 | Women's Tennis
SEATTLE --- The University of Washington women's tennis team finds out where it will be continuing one of its best seasons in program history when the NCAA announces its field for the 2019 women's tennis tournament on Monday at 3:30 p.m.
The tournament selection show is being streamed on the NCAA website [https://www.ncaa.com/sports/tennis-women/d1] at 3:30 p.m. PT. The 2019 tournament begins Friday, May 3, with first and second round matches at tournament sites. The second-round winners advance to the Super Regionals hosted by the top eight remaining seeds on Saturday, May 10.
Super Regional winners move on to the 2019 championship which will be conducted May 16-25 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida. Team quarterfinals, semifinals and finals are scheduled for May 16, 18 and 19, respectively, with individual singles and doubles play set for May 20-25.
The 11th-ranked Huskies head into the tournament with a 19-4 record including winning a program best eight Pac-12 matches this season. Washington's 19 victories are the most since the 2004 season and its four losses have all come to teams ranked in the Top 10. UW's overall record is tied for its best record through 23 matches.
The Huskies are locks to make their 14th NCAA Tournament appearance, just the second in the last eight years—both coming under Head Coach Robin Stephenson. In addition, Washington is in good shape to host the first and second rounds of the tournament, something which it hasn't done since 2003.
Last week, Washington reached the Pac-12 Tournament semifinals for the first time ever with a 4-1 win over Arizona State. The Huskies came from behind to tie the match at 3-3 before losing 4-3 to No. 9 UCLA.
