
Nowell Selected as One of 10 Finalists for Jerry West Award

SEATTLE – University of Washington sophomore Jaylen Nowell has been named one of 10 finalists for the Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Award, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced on Tuesday.
The sophomore, who is the only representative from the Pac-12 Conference, has had a stellar season, leading the team in scoring at 16.6 points per game. He has additionally improved his stats in almost every category. He's leading the team in assists at 75 (3.4pg) and is shooting 51.9 percent from the field with a huge jump to 45.1 percent from 3-point range while also pulling down 5.4 rebounds per game, which ranks second on the team.
Out of the 10 finalists, Nowell is one of two that is averaging over 50 percent shooting, 16 or more points along with at least 3.0 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game, joining Jarrett Culver from Texas Tech. He's been named the Pac-12 Player of the Week three times becoming the first Husky since Isaiah Thomas to earn the award three times in one season.
In March, five finalists will be presented to Mr. West and the Hall of Fame's selection committee. The winner of the 2019 Jerry West Award will be presented at The College Basketball Awards presented by Wendy's in Los Angeles, CA on Friday, April 12, 2019, along with the other four members of the Naismith Starting 5.
