Last Chance College Elite Meet Results | UW High School Invitational Complete Results
SEATTLE - The day after anchoring the Husky distance medley relay to a likely NCAA Indoor qualifier, junior Mick Stanovsek came back and ran the fourth sub-four-minute mile of his career, but his first as a Husky, in the Last Chance College Elite Meet invitational mile section on Saturday. The invite mile heat was the one event held over from Friday and took place during the middle of the UW High School Invitational.
Stanovsek was the only Husky to compete on Saturday, though several UW signees had impressive showings at the High School Invitational and elsewhere.
The Cleveland, Ohio native became the eighth Husky to go sub-four minutes all time and the second this season, joining Talon Hull who made the mark at the UW Invitational. Stanovsek clocked a time of 3:58.64 on Saturday, the fourth-fastest time in school history, and the 14th-best time in the NCAA this season. He qualified for NCAA Indoors in both the mile and on the DMR last year while at Oregon.
During the high school competition, future Huskies had an impressive 1-2 finish in the men's mile, and a big win in the men's shot put.
In the mile, Husky recruits Daniel Maton and Joe Waskom went back and forth throughout and wound up neck and neck down the homestretch, with Maton just holding on for the win in 4:10.00 compared to Waskom's 4:10.03. Maton and Waskom rank fifth and sixth, respectively, in the national prep mile rankings this indoor season, and another incoming Dawg, Sam Affolder, ranks fourth at 4:09.68.
In the shot put, Samuel Van Peursem dominated the field, winning by over nine feet, as he threw a PR of 62-3 1/2. That ranks him seventh in the nation this indoor season.
Also turning heads on Saturday was incoming Husky Marlena Preigh who broke a 14-year-old meet record at the Simplot Games in Idaho, as she won the 800-meters in a time of 2:06.80. That ranks her No. 2 nationally and according to Runnerspace.com is the No. 16 time in prep history indoors.
