Gabbie Plain Named To Aussie Spirit Team
February 13, 2019 | Softball
COLLINGWOOD, Australia - Softball Australia announced the 2019 Travelodge Aussie Spirit squad today, with Washington's own Gabbie Plain earning her way onto the elite squad. The 30-person team will send a group to compete in the National Fastpitch League this year. A group of 17 players will be chosen from the Aussie Spirit squad to represent Australia at the 2019 Asia/Oceania Olympic Qualifier in September.
Plain was an All-American and an All-Pac-12 First Team selection in her first year with Washington, becoming the first Husky ever to allow less than 100 hits in a season while throwing over 100 innings. She began 2019 on the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year watch list and was named a finalist for the Freshman of the Year award in 2018.
Plain becomes on of seven current or former Huskies to represent their country internationally over the last year. Taran Alvelo and Francesca Torraca each play for Puerto Rico, while Sis Bates, Courtney Gano, and Ali Aguilar have already played for Team USA. Heather Tarr coaches the Junior National Team for the United States and has served as an assistant coach with the National Team.
