Sundodger Provides Early Work For Cross Country
September 07, 2018 | Cross Country
SEATTLE β Washington cross country has been back together as a team for just three days now, with athletes reporting to campus this past Tuesday. With training camp less than a week old, the Huskies head into their first preliminary competition this Saturday, hosting the annual Sundodger Invitational at Lincoln Park in West Seattle. The women's 6,000-meter race will go at 11 a.m. and the men's 8,000-meter competition goes at 11:35 a.m.
Β
Washington will have a small group of runners getting in work on Saturday, with the full squads planning to debut later this month, the men at Boston on Sept 21 and the women at Stanford on Sept. 29.
Β
Saturday will be a "workout-type effort in a fun setting," according to Director of Track & Field Maurica Powell. "We have only had a few days with the student-athletes, so who runs on Saturday will be based on the best long term decisions for the season. The plan is to run in groups at a determined pace."
Β
Joining the Huskies at Lincoln Park will be teams from Boise State, Oregon State, Seattle U., and Trinity Western.
Β
Dawgs who may run on Saturday on the women's side include senior Emily Hamlin, junior Nikki Zielinski, sophomores Allie Schadler and Kiera Marshall, redshirt freshman Sarah Carter, freshmen Madison Heisterman and Olivia O'Keeffe, and new transfers Katie Rainsberger and Nicole Geocke.
Β
The Husky men who may line up include juniors Julius Diehr and Andrew Snyder, sophomores Nate Beamer, Nick Laccinole, and Tibebu Proctor, and redshirt freshman Chase Equall.
