Huskies Release 2018-19 Non-Conference Schedule

SEATTLE --- Second-year head coach Jody Wynn announced an ambitious non-conference schedule for the upcoming 2018-19 season on Friday.
The 12-game, non-conference slate features seven home games and at least six against teams to make the NCAA postseason last year. That includes a home showdown against national runner-up Mississippi State in late December. It's the second-straight season the Huskies have compiled one of the most difficult non-conference schedules in the country.
"We have a very challenging schedule that will prepare us for the rigors of Pac-12 play," said Wynn. "We'll have the opportunity to face different styles of basketball and compete against quality opponents from all over the country."
Highlighting the non-conference schedule is the return of the Husky Classic Dec. 15-16 at Alaska Airlines Arena. The four-team, two-day classic was a staple of the women's basketball schedule from 1986 through 2010 with the Huskies posting a 39-9 all-time record in classic games. The 25th Husky Classic sees Washington welcome Montana along with 2018 NCAA Tournament qualifiers Boise State and Saint Francis.
The Huskies open the season with a pair of home games, taking on Cal State Fullerton on Nov. 8, matching the earliest start date in program history. Washington then hosts Northern Arizona on Nov. 11 in a homecoming for second-year Lumberjacks' coach Loree Payne, who was a former Husky standout from 1999-2003.
Washington hits the road for its next six games, opening the trip at Tulane University on Nov. 18. The Huskies remain in the Southeast to take part in the Gulf Coast Showcase Nov. 23-25 in Fort Myers, Florida. Washington will be one of eight teams in the bracket-style tournament which features women's basketball powers Texas, Duke and Michigan among others.
The Huskies close out the road trip much closer to home, facing cross-town rival Seattle University on Nov. 30 at Redhawk Center. The Redhawks are coming off their first-ever NCAA Tournament berth after winning the Western Athletic Conference title last season.
The month of December features five home games for Washington starting with its first-ever meeting against George Mason on Dec. 2. The Patriots were 24-10 last year, reaching the second round of the WNIT.
Defending Big 10 Champ and perennial NCAA power Ohio State comes to Seattle on Dec. 5 in a rematch of last season's battle in Columbus. The Buckeyes, coached by former Husky Head Coach Kevin McGuff, narrowly held on for an 85-76 win in last year's matchup at OSU.
After the Husky Classic, Washington wraps up the non-conference slate with a huge battle against Mississippi State on Dec. 20. The Bulldogs, who have finished as the national runner-up in each of the last two seasons, are 126-22 over the previous four seasons including a 37-2 mark last year.
Game times and TV information for all games will be announced at a future date. The Pac-12 schedule is still being finalized, but should be released in August.
