July 20, 2018 | Football
Two more Washington players were named to preseason watch lists for national college football awards today as tight end Drew Sample was named to the watch list for the John Mackey Award and center Nick Harris made the list for the Rimington Trophy.
Sample, a senior from Bellevue, Wash., has started 26 games at tight end over the last three years. Winner of the team's Don James Perseverance Award (2017) and Earle T. Glant Tough Husky Award (2015), the Newport High product has twice earned Academic All-Pac-12 honorable mention and was an honorable mention All-Pac-12 selection in 2016.
The John Mackey Award is given annually to the nation's top tight end, and was won by Washington's Austin Seferian-Jenkins in 2013.
Harris, a junior from Inglewood, Calif., is slated to be the Huskies' new starting center in 2018. As a true freshman in 2016, he played in 12 games, starting four. Last year, he started all 13 games at right guard, earning honorable mention on the All-Pac-12 and Academic All-Pac-12 teams.
The Rimington Trophy is presented to the country's top center.
