July 17, 2018 | Track & Field
SEATTLE – Washington Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Maurica Powell and Head Coach Andy Powell have secured the skills of a familiar face from Eugene, as Stephanie Bohannon will take over as Director of Operations for the Huskies after serving the same position at Oregon the past two years.
"I'm honored to be a part of a new era of Husky Track & Field and Cross Country under the leadership of Maurica and Andy Powell," said Bohannon. "As a former middle distance runner at the University of Connecticut, I couldn't be more delighted to become a Husky once again on Montlake. I am grateful for the vision of UW leadership and the Powells that will deliver a meaningful and rewarding experience for our student-athletes, fans and the entire UW family."
Bohannon will serve as Meet Director for Washington's home cross country and track meets, including the series of Dempsey Indoor meets that attract some of the nation's finest fields of professional, collegiate, and prep talent. She will also have a hand in all aspects of team travel, recruiting, compliance, academics, communications, and alumni and donor relations.
"Stephanie is the perfect fit for our staff and vision at the University of Washington," said Maurica Powell. "She will work tirelessly to ensure that our student-athletes have an unparalleled experience in Seattle. Stephanie is an innovative problem-solver, and she will bring both experience and creativity to her role as meet director for our indoor and outdoor competitions. We are thrilled to add Stephanie to our team."
At Oregon, Bohannon was the Director of Operations during the 2016-17 season that saw the Oregon women win the first "Triple Crown" in NCAA cross country and track, as UO won the 2016 cross country title, and the 2017 indoor and outdoor track team titles.
Prior to her two seasons as Director of Operations at Oregon, Bohannon served as the Volunteer Coordinator for TrackTown USA in Eugene for two years in charge of recruiting, training, and maintaining more than six thousand volunteers to support the hosting of major events such as the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials, two NCAA Outdoor Championships, the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships and two more USATF National Championships.
Bohannon was a Husky of a different breed for two and a half years at the University of Connecticut, where she was Coordinator of Student Athlete Development and Community Outreach. During her time at UConn she wrote and maintained the $1 million SBM Charitable Foundation grant and coordinated student-athlete participation in volunteer activities and development events, as well as overseeing community outreach programs. She was the staff advisor for the UConn Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and taught sections of the Freshmen Year Experience and Senior Year Experience Life Skill courses.
A 2012 graduate of UConn, Bohannon was a member of the cross country and track and field team and earned Big East All-Academic Team honors. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Political Science and received the Suzannah Bliss Tieman Award for Research in Psychology in 2010.
Bohannon also served as Associate Director/Recreation Director for the Northeast Kingdom Running Camp in Lyndonville, Vermont, for nine years.
