UW Signee Schroeder Selected In Second Round Of MLB Draft

SEATTLE - Jayson Schroeder, a right-handed pitcher from Juanita High School in Kirkland, Wash., and a Husky signee, was selected in the second round the the Major League Baseball Draft on Monday evening. The Houston Astros picked Schroeder with the 66th overall pick in day one of the three-day MLB Draft.
Schroeder has been a known commodity to the Huskies' coaching staff for years and simultaneously also on professional scouts' radars. With a fastball touching the mid 90s, mixed with a changeup, curve and slider, he was ranked theΒ 93rdΒ best prospect by MLB.com. In a dominant senior year, Schroeder struck out 110 batter in just over 60 innings and made headlines this year for throwing a perfect game that included 17 strikeouts.Β
The Huskies have numerous current juniors and seniors that are expected to hear their names called in the next couple of days. The draft resumesTuesday with rounds three through 10, starting at 10:00 a.m. PT. Rounds 11 through 40 will be held on Wednesday, starting at 9:00 a.m. PT.Β
