
Three Huskies to Participate in NCAA Championships

SEATTLE – Stacey Fung and Vanessa Wong will represent Washington women's tennis in the 2018 NCAA Women's Tennis Singles Championships beginning on May 23. Wong will also team up with Miki Kobayashi to compete in the 2018 NCAA Women's Tennis Doubles Championship, which starts on May 24. Both championships will be held at Wake Forest University.
This is the second singles championship for Fung, her first coming last season when she advanced to the second round. For Kobayashi, this is her second appearance in the doubles championship. She went in 2016 with Nour Abbes.
Fung and Wong are among the field of 64 singles players. There are 32 doubles teams that will compete in the championships.
Fung, a senior, played all of her singles matches this season in the No. 1 spot with the Dawgs, compiling an 18-1 record. Overall, she has a 26-4 record. She reached a season-high ranking of No. 6 and is currently ranked No. 15. Against players ranked in the top 100, Fung picked up seven wins. She was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week on January 30.
In her first season with Washington, Wong compiled a 27-8 overall record, including 18-5 in dual-matches. She had a season-high ranking of No. 36 and is currently No. 50. She has four wins this year against players ranked in the top 100.
In doubles, Kobayashi and Wong are currently ranked No. 28 in the ITA doubles rankings. The two of them lead UW in doubles with an 18-7 record (17-3 in dual-matches). The doubles pair of Kobayashi and Wong have been ranked as high as No. 20 in the 2018 season. In dual matches, they have lost just three sets, only one in the past two months. They have four wins against top-50 duos, including two wins against the No. 1-ranked pairs.
The singles and doubles championships will go from May 23-28 following the team championship, with each round taking place at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex.
