UW Swept 4-0 by Top-Seeded Stanford
April 26, 2018 | Women's Tennis
OJAI, Calif. – No. 43 Washington women's tennis ended its run in the Pac-12 Women's Tennis Championships after a 4-0 loss to No. 1-seed Stanford on Thursday afternoon.
Washington (16-11) struggled more in this matchup with No. 14 Stanford (16-3). In the regular-season match in Seattle, the Huskies lost 4-2.
In doubles, the Dawgs did not get the start they had hoped for. The Cardinal dominated on courts two and three, winning both by the same 6-1 score to secure the doubles point.
Washington struggled to hold the top-seeded Stanford at bay in singles. On court six, Angela Li lost a quick 6-2, 6-1 match. Not long after, Vanessa Wong lost her match at No. 2 singles in two sets, 6-1, 6-1, giving the Cardinal a 3-0 lead in the dual-match.
The match was decided on court three. Miki Kobayashi fought hard, but the senior dropped her match in two sets, 6-4, 6-3.
Only two Huskies won their opening sets in singles. Stacey Fung won her first set in a tight battle, 7-5. Alexis Prokopuik cruised to a 6-1 win in the first, only to lose 6-2 in the second to go to a third. However, their efforts were not enough as Stanford clinched the match before those two matches could earn UW a point or two.
The Dawgs will find out whether they make the NCAA tournament on May 1 in the selection show starting at 2 p.m. PT on NCAA.com.
