Dawgs Place Fifth at Bruin Wave Invitational

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The 18th ranked University of Washington women's golf team posted a solid fifth place finish at the stacked Bruin Wave Invitational on Tuesday, scoring a 50-over 914 (308-306-300) with their best showing coming over the final 18 holes. The Dawgs were led by junior Sarah Rhee who posted her third career top-10 effort placing sixth overall.
Rhee started the day with a bogey on her second hole but went even par over the next seven to make the turn at 1-over. She started her back nine with back-to-back birdies and closed the round with a birdie on 18 to finish at 1-over 73, climbing four spots up the leaderboard to finish sixth at 9-over 225 (77-75-73).
Rhee was joined in the top 15 by two other Huskies including freshman Rino Sasaki who finished tied for ninth and sophomore Karen Miyamoto who tied for 11th. Sasaki posted a final round score of 4-over 76 en route to her overall score of 11-over 227 (75-76-76).
Miyamoto was another mover for the Dawgs during the final round as she jumped nine spots to finish tied for 11th at 12-over 228 (78-77-73). She posted her best showing of the tournament during Tuesday's final round going 1-over 73 with four birdies. It is the fourth top-15 effort for Miyamoto this season.
Junior Julianne Alvarez carded an 18-over 234 (78-78-78) to finish tied for 33rd in the stacked field. She stayed steady the whole event recording 6-over's in each round. Rounding out the UW squad was sophomore Eun Won Park who tied for 78th at 34-over 250 (85-80-85).
The Huskies were playing without junior Wenyung Keh, who recently finished tied for second at the prestigious Asia-Pacific Women's Amateur Championship in Singapore.
Up next for the Dawgs is the Bay Area Classic, March 5-6 in Fairfax, Calif.
