UW Graduation Success Rate Climbs To Highest Ever
December 26, 2018 | Tyee Club
In 2018, University of Washington student-athletes continued to graduate at a rate among the highest in the country, according to the NCAA's release on Graduation Success Rate (GSR). UW received its highest-ever mark, scoring an 89 on the data released, which measures the single-year GSR for the UW's most recent cohort. The NCAA initially launched the GSR in 1998.
The data showed that 16 of the UW's 22 programs match or exceed the national average for their respective GSR scores. Also of note, 18 of the UW's 22 programs matched or improved their scores from the last data release. The following seven programs recorded a perfect 100 GSR score: women's tennis, women's golf, volleyball, gymnastics, men's golf, men's tennis & men's basketball. Women's golf has posted a perfect score each of the years since the GSR's inception.
"The continued improvement and academic achievements from our student-athletes reflect our commitment to excellence in the classroom," said Jennifer Cohen, UW Director of Athletics. "These numbers attribute the hard work from our students, coaches and academic support staff led by Kim Durand."
The NCAA Graduation Success Rate (GSR) is designed to show the proportion of student-athletes on any given team who earn a college degree. The NCAA has imposed a new set of academic standards that seeks to hold teams and institutions accountable for how well a student-athlete progresses toward a degree.
