Kahle Recognized As Collegiate Baseball Preseason All-American
December 17, 2018 | Baseball
Preseason accolades are coming in as the 2019 college baseball season rapidly approaches and UW junior catcher Nick Kahle was recognized as a third team All-American by Collegiate Baseball.
KahleΒ (Simi Valley, Calif.) was a 2018 All-Pac-12 selection after hitting .293 with six home runs and 37 runs batted in. He led the Huskies, who advanced all the way to the College Baseball World Series for the first time in program history, with 20 doubles and had a team-best 1:1 strikeout to walk ratio (31 and 31). He also boosted his average to .336 in Pac-12 play. KahleΒ was the only Husky to play and start in all 61 games (he reached base safely in 54 of those games).
As good as KahleΒ was at the plate for the Huskies in 2018, he was arguably the team's most valuable player defensively. He caught 536 of a possible 553 innings (96.9%) behind the dish for Washington and was largely responsible for helping a UW pitching staff throw the fewest wild pitches and issue the second fewest walks in the Pac-12.
