Dawgs Host In-State Rival Washington State at 5 p.m. on Sunday

UW (14-6, 4-3) vs. WSU (9-10, 1-6)
UW returns home for three-straight games at Alaska Airlines Arena, first starting with in-state rival Washington State on Sunday, January 28 at 5 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPNU with Roxy Bernstein and Corey Williams on the call. Additionally, fans can tune into KOMO 1000AM and 97.7 FM to hear the official UW radio broadcast from Tony Castricone and Jason Hamilton. Washington has a 103-37 record over WSU when playing at home. Additionally, the last seven contests, road or home, have been decided by an average of 5.1 points.
The Coach
Head Coach Mike Hopkins is in his first year at Washington, and first as a head coach becoming the 19th head coach in UW history. After spending 22 years as an assistant at Syracuse, Hopkins oversaw teams that reached the NCAA Tournament 16 times including the 2003 National Championship, four Final Fours, five Elite Eights and 10 Sweet 16s along with four NIT berths. Syracuse never dipped below a 55.0 percent record while Hopkins was on staff.

• Washington recorded a season-high 50 rebounds at Colorado, its most since 54 at Gonzaga a year ago (Dec. 7, 2016) ... additionally UW had two players with 10 or more rebounds in Noah Dickerson and Matisse Thybulle for the first time this season
• The Huskies have recorded 10 or more steals nine times this season in its 20 games ... the last season where UW had at least 10 steals nine times was the 2009-10 campaign
•Junior Matisse Thybulle became the first Husky in program history to rank in the career top 10 in both categories ... Thybulle has 164 career steals (5th) and 85 career blocks (T9th).
• Thybulle is also nearing the UW single-season steals record as he currently has 60 which is tied for sixth with Jamie Booker (1996-97) ... the junior also holds the third-best single-season mark as he recorded 65 a year ago in 31 games ... the single season record is 67 (Bryant Boston, 1994-95, 27 games).
• Junior Noah Dickerson is getting close to becoming the 36th player in UW history to reach the 1,000 career scoring mark as he currently has 924 points ... his average of 14.3 ppg has him on pace to reach that mark this season
• UW is also having another impact on the defensive end as it has posted games of 10 or more blocks three times and five or more blocks nine times
• In 20 games, freshman Jaylen Nowell has recorded seven 20+ scoring efforts while leading the team in scoring 10 times ... he has scored at least 10 points in 13-straight games and in 19 of his 20 career games
• In its 14 wins, UW is shooting 50.3 percent from the field with three of its starters shooting over 50 percent (Timmins, 62.5; Dickerson, 58.8; Nowell, 53.2) in those wins
• Sophomore Sam Timmins has passed his point total from last season as he now has 102 career points ... he had 98 in 30 games a year ago
• Timmins has also upped his FT attempts, making it to the charity stripe 48 times in 20 games shooting a 54.2 percent clip ... last season he was just 6-of-16 for 37.5 percent in 30 games
• Thybulle is creating scoring on the direct next possession of 61.0 percent of his 60 steals this year ... over the last two years he is creating scoring on 56.8 percent of the next possession and for his career he is at 56.0 percent (92 of 164 steals)
• Washington has overcome 10 point deficits three times this season in wins over Belmont, USC and Washington State .. additionally, UW has trailed by at least five in seven of its 14 wins
• Over his first four games before suffering an injury, freshman Michael Carter III averaged just 0.3 points, 5.8 minutes and 0.3 rebounds ... since returning and seeing action in five games, he has averaged 3.4 points, 12.0 minutes and 0.8 rebounds in that span
• Junior Matisse Thybulle is the only active player in NCAA Division 1 to have over 160 steals and 80 blocks in their career ... his 164 steals rank tied for 16th amongst the NCAA active career leaders in that category
• UW is shooting 78.9 percent from the FT line in final five minutes of its 20 games and that goes to 78.8 percent in the final two minutes ... UW has not been that efficient from the FT line during those two spans since the 2009-10 season (78.2 final five; 81.4 final two)
