University of Washington Announces Husky Leadership Academy Program

SEATTLE – University of Washington athletic department officials announced the creation of the Husky Leadership Academy, a new program designed to develop students' personal leadership through self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and diversity and inclusion training… The program's first cohort will feature 13 student-athletes representing various Huskies sport programs, and will grow to an annual total of 75 participants spread over three cohorts by the 2019-'20 academic year.
"We are very excited about the Husky Leadership Academy," Kim Durand, Senior Associate Athletic Director said. "We believe that this programming can serve as an excellent complement to the leadership training our coaches provide Huskies student-athletes every day."
Student-athletes participating in the Husky Leadership Academy will receive additional training and development in critical leadership areas such as personal leadership development, diversity and inclusion, emotional intelligence and servant leadership, public speaking, team management and strategy, and conflict resolution.
The inaugural cohort includes Channing Nesbitt (baseball), Julianne Alvarez (golf), Tevis Bartlett (football), Michaela Nelson (gymnastics), Gigi Garcia (women's basketball), Mai-Loni Henson (women's basketball), Corban Anderson (soccer), Lexi Prokopuik (women's tennis), Destiny Julye (volleyball), Luke Khoury (men's rowing), Julia Paulsen (women's rowing), Taylor Sekyra (women's soccer), and Kirstyn Thomas (softball).
