Handwalla Bwana Named Pac-12 Player Of The Week
September 19, 2017 | Men's Soccer
SEATTLE - The Pac-12 Conference announced today that Handwalla Bwana was named the Player of the Week. The award came after a week that saw Bwana record an assist against Drexel before scoring his first-ever hat trick against Santa Clara.
Bwana becomes the second Husky to win Player of the Week this year. Joey Parish also won the award after the first week of the season, during which Parish recorded a goal and an assist in his one game of action.
Bwana scored multiple ways for his hat trick. Bwana's first goal came in the run of play while being fouled by a defender, scoring under the diving goalie on the advantage. Bwana then scored directly off a corner, curving the service over the goalie. The final goal of the game for the sophomore came off a free kick above the box.
For Bwana, the hat trick gave him four goals on the season, matching his total from last season despite 2017 being just seven games old. He needs just five more points the rest of the year to match his total from last season, when he was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year.
This week, the Huskies take on Utah Valley at home on Thursday, September 21 at 7:00 pm. Washington will also travel across town to take on Seattle University on Sunday, September 24 at 6:00 pm in the final non-conference game of the season.
