
Fung, Kobayashi receive preseason rankings and invitations

TEMPE, Ariz. โ Washington women's tennis players Stacey Fung and Miki Kobayashi received rankings and invitations to the All-American Championships in the 2017 Oracle Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Collegiate Tennis Women's Division I Preseason Rankings released on Tuesday.
Fung is No. 18 and Kobayashi is No. 84 in the preseason rankings. Additionally, they were both invited to participate in the 2017 Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships. Fung is the second alternate into the main draw while also being on the qualifying singles list. Kobayashi is on the qualifying singles alternate list and on the pre-qualifying singles list.
Fung, a junior from Canada, finished the 2017 season ranked No. 34. She totaled 24 singles wins in both open and dual play during 2016-17, which was the most on the team. It was also her second-straight season with 20 or more wins. The preseason ranking of No. 18 is the highest she has been on any ITA ranking. The last time a player from Washington was ranked No. 18 or less was in 2011 when both Denise Dy andย Venise Chan finished in the top 20 at No. 8 and 17, respectively.ย ย ย
Kobayashi is entering her senior season with the highest ranking of her career as well at No. 84, surpassing her previous high of No. 106. In 2017, she tallied 18 dual wins, which led the team in that category. She also saw success in doubles and was ranked at times throughout last season with Nour Abbes.
In doubles, Kobayashi and Alexis Prokopuik received an invitation to the All-American Championships in the prequalifying doubles list.
