FULLERTON, Calif. – Despite a late home run, the Huskies were unable to capture a win over the Baylor Bears (17-3) Saturday night. The Bears took the lead in the fourth inning and held onto it until in final inning to get the 5-1 win over Washington (14-3).

Husky freshman Kaija Gibson hit a mid- game home run to ignite the Husky offense after trailing by one five innings into the game.

The Bears were the first to get a run in, but it wasn't until the fourth inning that they were able to break the 0-0 tie. With a runner in scoring position, McGlaun hit a sacrifice fly to right field to plate a runner.

Gibson responded in the fifth inning with a solo home run, the first of her career.

Tied at 1-1 at the bottom of the fifth, the Bears knocked in two more runs to take the lead for the second time, 3-1. The first run was unearned and plated from third base after a throwing error from pitcher Taran Alvelo to first base. Immediately after, another sacrifice hit brought in a runner from third to give the Bears their second run on the inning.

The Huskies totaled for five hits on the game. Trysten Melhart, Sis Bates, Kelly Burdick and Kirstyn Thomas each had a base-hit in addition to Gibson's home run.

Samantha Manti started on the mound and pitched for 3.1 innings, striking out two. Taran Alvelo came in as relief for the final 2.2 innings and struck out three more batters.

Tomorrow (March 4), the Huskies will compete in their final game at the Judi Garman Classic at 9 a.m. when they face the Northwestern Wildcats for the second time in ten days. Last week the two met at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic where the Huskies won, 6-3.
