February 04, 2017 | Cross Country
BEND, Ore. - Husky freshman Gavin Parpart, a native of Kenmore, Wash. and an Inglemore High School Grad, earned his way onto the U.S. Junior National Cross Country Team today in Bend, Oregon. Parpart was the fourth-place finisher in the junior race at the U.S. Cross Country Championships, and will be rewarded by representing Team USA at the World Junior Cross Country Championships next month in Uganda.
Parpart redshirted his first fall season as a Dawg, but ran well at the season-opening Sundodger Invite, where he finished 11th overall. Running through the snow-covered River's Edge Golf Course in Bend, Parpart covered the 8,000-meters in 26-minutes, 17-seconds, finishing 12 seconds behind the winner, Paul Roberts. Also running well for the Dawgs today was freshman Ryan Gregory, who finished 15th overall in 27:30. The top six junior finishers automatically earned a spot on the U.S. team for Worlds.
The IAAF World Cross Country Championships will welcome Parpart and Team USA on March 26 in Kampala, Uganda.
