Vea Earns Morris Trophy As Pac-12's Top Defensive Lineman
December 04, 2017 | Football
SEATTLE – Washington's Vita Vea has won the Morris Trophy, given annually to the top offensive and defensive linemen in the Pac-12, and voted on by the conference's players, the Washington Athletic Club announced today.
Vea, a junior from Milpitas, Calif., was the centerpiece of a Husky defense that finished the regular season as the Pac-12 leader in rushing, scoring and total defense. The 6-foot-5, 340-pound defensive tackle finished the season with 38 total tackles, including five-and-a-half for loss.
His Morris Trophy win is the first by a Husky – on either side of the ball – since offensive tackle Chad Ward won it in 2000. He is Washington's first defensive winner since D'Marco Farr in 1993.
Oregon's Tyrell Crosby won this season's Morris Trophy on offense.
The Morris Trophy was first awarded after the 1980 season. A lunch honoring the 2017 winners will be held at the Washington Athletic Club on January 18, 2018.
