
Warkentin Wins 2016 WJGA Championship

Incoming Husky freshman birdies final hole to earn the title.
Incoming UW freshman Sam Warkentin birdied the final hole to shoot a 1-under par 71 in the third and final round of the 2016 WJGA Championships today at Bellingham Golf & Country Club.
Warkentin, from Bainbridge Island, Wash., finished the 16 and 17-year old flight (the oldest age group) with a three-round total of 210 (70-69-71), six-under for the tournament and just one stroke ahead of the second-place finisher. He was buoyed by his second-round score of 3-under 69 Wednesday at Sudden Valley Golf Club, where he posted six birdies in his round. He shot a 70 at Bellingham G&CC on Tuesday.
For the tournament, Warkentin shot 13 birdies and six bogeys, playing the par-five holes at 7-under over the three rounds.
Warkentin, who won the 3A state high school title as a junior and took third in 2016, signed a National Letter of Intent with Washington last November and will enroll at the UW for his freshman year next month.
