SEATTLE – The Washington women's tennis team announced the addition of Alexis Prokopuik today, who will join the team in the fall as a transfer from Georgia Tech.
“We are so thrilled to have Alexis joining us this fall,” said head coach Robin Stephenson. “She has impressed me so much throughout the entire process and I have no doubt that she will be an integral part of taking our program to the next level.”
The Vancouver, B.C. native will join the Huskies as a junior next season, after a successful sophomore campaign with the Yellow Jackets this past year. In singles she held an impressive 25-8 overall record while going 17-5 in dual match play, including a team-leading 11 wins in conference.
Prokopuik helped guide Georgia Tech to big wins this past season, grabbing the clinching singles match against No. 12 Virginia, winning the first singles point in an upset of No. 8 Duke, and clinching the match against No. 39 Princeton in the NCAA Tournament opener.
“She had a very successful time at Georgia Tech and that experience will certainly help us,” said Stephenson. “I have a ton of respect for the Georgia Tech coaches and that program, and we are fortunate to have her coming to Seattle. Alexis is an extremely hard worker and she will excel in the classroom and on the court.”
Before attending Georgia Tech Prokopuik won the U16 Canadian National Championships and was also a member of the Canadian Jr. Fed Cup team in 2012. Ranked as high as 162nd in the ITF rankings, she won the G2 ITF doubles in Lima, Peru during 2014 and was named to the National Canadian Junior Tennis Team. Prokopuik was the winner of seven consecutive titles at the B.C. Provincial Championships, was ranked No. 2 in the Tennis Canada rankings and was named a five-star recruit by TennisRecruiting.net.
