May 05, 2016 | Women's Tennis
INDIANAPOLIS, IN – The NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Tennis Subcommittee has selected the field for the 2016 NCAA Championships, with Husky duo Nour Abbes and Miki Kobayashi receiving an at-large bid in doubles.
The 32-team tournament will be conducted May 25th to the 30th at the Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla. with the University of Tulsa serving as the host.
Abbes and Kobayashi are currently ranked 27th in the country by the ITA, and most recently made a run at the Pac-12 Doubles Championships where they defeated No. 5 Taylor Davidson and Caroline Doyle of Stanford 7-5 on the way to the semifinal round.
Currently owning a 9-5 record on the year overall, Abbes and Kobayashi picked up a win over another top doubles pair earlier this season against No. 27 UCLA, defeating then-ranked No. 5 Catherine Harrison and Kyle McPhillips 6-1.
One of the keys to the Huskies success this season, Abbes played a majority of the season in singles at the No. 1 court and was recently named All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention. In doubles she holds a 14-6 overall record on the year.
Kobayashi has been dominant in doubles all year, having one of the most successful seasons in Washington history. Earlier this season, Kobayashi defeated a third top-5 opponent in a 6-3 win over No. 3 Maegan Manasse and Denise Starr of California paired with Tami Grende. Kobayashi's 25 doubles wins on the year place her in a tie for 7th for the most doubles wins in a season at Washington.
This will be the first duo to compete at the NCAA Doubles Championships since the All-American team of Denise Dy and Venise Chan in 2011, when they reached the quarterfinal round.
