SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- The University of Washington softball team claimed another Pac-12 weekly accolade after earning four wins last weekend at the Mary Nutter Classic, the league office announced Tuesday (Feb. 23). Freshman catcher Morganne Flores was named Freshman of the Week for her outstanding play in three games started behind the dish.
Flores is just the second Husky freshman to have received this award, which the conference debuted in 2015. Sophomore Krystal Aubert was the first recipient last season.
In three games played, Flores led the Husky offense with a .600 batting average going 6-for-10 with one double and her first collegiate home run against Central Michigan. She recorded two RBI and three runs scored over the weekend.
Starting in three games behind the dish, Flores helped guide the team to a pair of shutout wins against Santa Barbara, 7-0 and Central Michigan, 23-0. The freshman also started in the win against No. 15 UCF.
The Huskies (9-1) will head back to Palm Springs, Calif. for another five games in the Mary Nutter Memorial Tournament II next weekend (Fri-Sun., Feb. 26-28). Washington will begin play against No. 1 Florida at 3 p.m. PST on Friday.
