GymDawgs Post Season-High At Utah
February 14, 2016 | Gymnastics
SEATTLE – UW gymnastics posted season-high scores on vault and floor on its way to an overall score of 196.250, the GymDawgs best in 2016.
“We were thrilled with the team effort,” head coach Joanne Bowers said. “This team has really shown some mental toughness, and to put together a complete meet like this was big for us in this moment. We came together and needed some people to step up, and to see how they put it all together in a great environment was incredible.”
The GymDawgs finished second to the Utes, but the overall score bested the previous season-high – 196.175 at the Metroplex Challenge. Senior Allison Northey led the GymDawgs with a personal-best all-around score of 39.550.
“As a team, we really came together and showed our potential,” Northey said. “We knew what we were capable of and it was exciting to put it out on the floor. We fed off of a great crowd and felt really strong throughout the whole meet.”
The GymDawgs had a total of 14 season-high scores, including five each on vault and floor. Northey had season-highs on vault and beam and set a new personal-best on floor, leading to her career night.
“My goal going into every meet is to get a little bit better, so setting a new personal-best is something I always strive for,” Northey said. “When I have my best routines, it's really because of the great routines that my teammates have hit up to that point. I feed off of their momentum.”
